Agreed, I knew I smelled a heretic ripe for purging by fire.

OK, I need to get some consensus before this tourney on the current state of allies rules for use in tourneys. According to Adepticons most recent tourney rules they can still be used as stated int he printed versions of both the WH and DH codexes. I know the DH codex will get its update soon but I am more interested in the WH one which might be soom time before it gets an update. All GW FAQs state that the allies rules are still valid as writen even though the pdf versions of the codexs have those riules removed. The adepticon rules have an updated list of which units can be taken as allies in a WH parent list.
From many posts from other forums it appears that if one takes a space marine parent list them it can include both DH and WH, even including Adepta Sororitus units. If one takes a WH parent list then it can include both DH and Space marine allies, but the Space marine allies are not allowed if Adepta Sororitus units are present. DH units are fine though even if Adepta Sororitus units are included. If one takes a DH parent list then both space marine and WH allies can be taken even if those include Adepta Sororitus.
Rules pertaining to DH allies will probably change with the new codex but rules pertaining to WH will probably stay as written until a new WH codex is made or the allies rules in the WH codex get an updated FAQ
The way the exclusion rules is written is as follows from the printed version of the WH codex from the section dealing with including allied space marine contingents in a WH force "Allied Space Marines may not be used if any Adepta Sororitus units are present in the Witch Hunter force"
There is no mention of not being able to include Adepta Sororitus units in the "Using Witch Hunters as Allies" section. It even says that "If you have an existing Warhammer 40,000 army, this is the simplest way of incorporating an Inquisitor or a squad of Sisters of Battle." In this section is also reads" Witch Hunters cannot ally with a force that uses any other type of ally with the exception of seperate detachments and units from other Ordos of the Inquisition" Under 5th addition rules this basically means that if WH are used as allies then the only other allies that can be taken are the current DH units.
So can I legally run the following lists at tourneys?
1) A space marine codex parent list with both DH and WH allies (including Adepta Sororitus units)
2) A WH parent list (including Adepta Sororitus units) with DH allies
3) A DH parent list with both space marine and WH allies (including Adepta Sororitus units)
4) A space marine codex parent list with WH allies (including Adepta Sororitus)
Thanks for the feedback.

The way I understand the allies system is exactly how you explained it. You either play the WH book, play the DH book, or play another book and ally either or both. Restrictions that apply are determined by the parent and child order, but some overall restrictions cross over. I will do a little digging as I own both codices and give you an official answer later this week.

I might be able to show up if I can get up early enough to get over there at 9 (Man this would be better if it was later in the day) and if I can get someone to loan me 800pts of IG but go ahead and put me down.
Wes Moran: Imperial Guard
Uh one question: is there a fee and if so how much?

5$ entry fee
We have to do it as early as possible to squeeze in 3 games plus lunch because TBS closes at 5pm on Sundays.

Warlord, I have extra guard if you need them, just let me know what you need and I should be able to bring them with me the day of the tourney.
